How Freelancing Changed My Life

I love freelancing. I love everything about freelancing. The best thing about freelancing? FREEDOM! My life is changed when I started freelancing and I love the changes!

Here’s how freelancing has changed my life, so far:

Time Management

I think this is the most important aspect of all. I can manage time better when I get to control my own working hours. I get to do more every day!

Health Improvement

I used to get ill really often when I was working in retail, and it was terrible (who wants to get ill anyway?). I spent quite a fortune on medical expenses and I hated it. Now, my health has improved tremendously, physically and mentally. Truly loving my life!

Relationship Improvement

I hardly had any time to spend with my family when I was working in retail due to the long working hours but now I get to hang out with family and friends all the time. It is very important for me to spend time with my parents (after all, we are not getting any younger!).

Personal Growth

I have always wanted to study Psychology and I got the chance two years after I started freelancing. I am taking it slow and steady but I am definitely getting there! Apart from that, I have learned so much from mentors around the world such as Problogger. I truly enjoyed the experience and happy to gain more knowledge every day.

New Opportunities

Freelancing has opened many doors for me, and it never ceases to amaze me. It is a wonderful journey and I get to meet many new friends around the world.

Freelancing has much to offer to those who seek freedom and change of lifestyle. If you are considering a change of career, it is never too late to start freelancing.

How To Find The Strength To Write

Writing is fun when you have something to share. Writing is fun when you want to talk about experiences.

Writing is not just about making money but it is a way to heal yourself.

Everyone can write, in a good way or a bad way.

You can mend a broken window but you can never mend a broken heart. You just need to find the strength to write about your “broken heart” to ease the pain. Consider writing as a therapy.

This is why we have diaries, traditional way and modern way.

It is common to have a diary (a book or a blog). A diary is where you pour your feelings out. However, a “book” diary is much bettter than a “blog” diary because everything you write in the book is private (only for your own eyes).

Still, it is your choice whether you want to have a “book” diary or a “blog” diary. Anything to make you feel better about yourself.

Here is something to think about.

How To Find The Strength To Write…

1. about life – your life, bad experiences, good experiences

2. about work – like it, hate it

3. about family – the ones you love the most, the ones that care about you

4. about friends – be there for you, bad mouth about you, hate you, love you, like you

5. about everything else – something out of ordinary

There is only one useful tip for me: I just want to let it all out!

Are you feeling the same?

Another 5 Reasons Why Freelancing is Cool

So, I have written about the Top 3 Reasons Why Freelancing is Cool on 11th February 2009.

I would like to continue to add more reasons and here is a list of 5 reasons why I think freelancing is cool.

1. No more paying for transportation

(I used to take the bus to work and it costs me RM2 every working day, so 22 days x RM2 = RM44 a month)

2. No more spending extra money for lunch

(It costs about RM5 per lunch and I work an average 22 days a month, so 22 days x RM5 = RM110 a month)

3. Get to spend more time watching my favourite drama series – I love Charmed and Chuck

4. Friends envy me – It is not my intention to make them envy me, but they do because I work from home. They wish to be me!

5. Even my mum thinks I am unemployed (at first) and she has no idea how I can give her money to spend – which is pretty cool

Until today, most people around me can’t understand the concept of my work. Sometimes, I am getting tired of having to explain many times about what I do, and how I can earn a living.

Extra reason: My income is unpredictable

I really love the fact that I can save some money as I no longer use public transportation and I don’t eat out as often as I used to, which means I can save about RM154 a month, and that is a big deal for me. An extra RM154 every month means I can pay off my debt faster.

What is the coolest reason for you to freelance?

Qualifications to Be a Freelance Writer

People are asking me, “what are the qualifications to be a freelance writer?”

I would like to stress here, that there is no specific qualifications to be a freelance writer.

You don’t have to study for a degree in order to be a freelance writer (although it is an advantage).

You can have a degree OR NOT if you want to join the freelancing industry.

As long as you know your stuff and you have the right attitude, you should be fine.

What you need to be a freelance writer?

  • Knowledge in your industry. Are you becoming a freelance writer / website designer? Know your stuff!
  • The guts to step out of your current job and step in to your industry (writing / designing)
  • Know how to spread a word about your business @ services / advertise yourself
  • Know where to find jobs / gigs (places you can search for work – i.e. Internet, etc.)
  • Social Media intellect
  • Motivation and determination
  • Money to spend while you are not working

So, what are you waiting for? Be a freelancer now or never!
