Home Based Jobs

Recently, I have received an enquiry from Rossa Deken.

I need to find a home based job because I am tired of office hours. Would you advice me what should I do?

Rossa, if you are reading this, this would be my reply to you.

The truth is everyone is tired of office hours.

The reason I become a freelance writer is because I hate working hours (9am to 6pm or similar working hours).

As I said, I used to work in retail stores and offices. I know it is difficult to work according to a set of working hours. If you work for yourself, at least you get to set your own working hours. The best part would be to go on a holiday at anytime you want.

I would suggest you to give freelancing a try, but don’t quit on your day job because:

  • If you quit now and your freelance work is not successful, you will be having a tough time because you won’t have enough money to support your living cost until you get a new job.
  • If you quit now and you can’t find any freelance work to do, at least you can still earn money from your current day job.

If you are sure you want to start freelancing, be sure to have enough money to support you for at least six months. Otherwise, don’t think about it at all.

As to finding a freelance job that is suitable for you, refer to this article.

I hope you can find the right path towards your dream career.

No Home Office

I am going through a tough period.

With no home office, I can’t seem to work properly.

This is why, having a home office is very important.

Since I work at home, I definitely need my own working space.

Now that I am working all over the places, I can’t even update my blog as frequent as possible.

Can you imagine me working in the living room, on the bed and even in the kitchen, in a house of 6 people.

Ideas seem to get stuck in my head, can’t get them out.

Hopefully I will be able to get my home office real soon.

Why Dog is the Best Companion for a Writer?

Sometimes, being a writer can be lonely. You might be married and have a family but there are writers who are single and live alone out there.

Imagine having to write at home, alone. Watch TV alone. Eat alone. You have to do everything alone. Life sucks although you are making big money from your writing career.

If you are a writer, living in an apartment alone and wishing to have somebody to accompany you while you work, consider adopting a dog (or a cat but I prefer dog so I am going to talk about dogs only).

The reasons why dog is the best companion?

  1. Dogs are comforting. You get tired, you look at the dog, you feel better. You need to relax? Go down to the park and play fetch. This way, you get some exercise too. You can even jog with your dog. Remember the dog in Rocky’s movies?
  2. Dogs don’t talk. They bark and yet you get peace while working although once in a while your dog might break the silence with a bark.
  3. Dogs do what they do best, guard. It is an added security for your home.
  4. Give your dog a hug when you need a hug.
  5. Share noms (food) with your dog. Watch TV and share snacks.
  6. Dogs never complain. They are content with the food you give them. They are happy to see you. They are happy to have a place to live. They are thankful. Occasionally they might want a bone or two. Just give in to them if they behave well.
  7. They walk on 4 legs. They are funny to look at. They are cute. They give you puppy eyes. They know what to do when you are sad. They make you happy. You can never resist a smile when you look at them.
  8. Dogs are loyal. Loyalty is important. They won’t leave you for no reason.

Why not get a dog now if you are lonely? Once you get a dog, your life won’t be so lonely anymore.

Laptops For Writers

If you are using a laptop for work, I am sure you would prefer to have a laptop that provides comfortable keypad and sufficient hard drive capacity for all your files. Usually, when you buy a laptop, you should always go for the fastest RAM, highest hard drive capacity, largest screen, longest battery life and the most accessories port.

However, not everyone can afford these as they cost a bomb. Bear in mind that it is very difficult to upgrade laptops. Not to mention that you should get a laptop that is of high quality to avoid constant break down which in turn will ruin your work schedule and delay your work. If you can afford, invest in a good laptop so that you can use it for a long time.

Today, we are going to have a look at two laptops that are suitable for writing.

Most people prefer Apple. I would recommend the Apple Macbook Pro 17″.

Apple Macbook Pro

Yes, it has a large screen which is easier for you to read whatever you have written.

Other specifications:

  • 2.8 GHz Core 2 Duo Processor
  • 4 GB DDR3 RAM
  • 500 GB Hard Drive, DVD SuperDrive
  • Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard Operating System
  • NVIDIA Geforce 9400M + 9600M GT Graphics, 17 inch LED Display

Basically, this is an ideal laptop for online business entrepreneur or writers. With this gadget, you will be smiling throughout your working hours. You get soft keypads, which provide comfort for your fingers. The UI is absolutely amazing and easy to navigate. You can bring your Macbook along to anywhere you want to go. This is a luxury and of course, you will need to sacrifice in order to get the best.

Apart from Apple, Microsoft powered laptops are also popular. Windows have always provide reliable OS and the latest they have is Windows 7. However, I am using Windows Vista and it never gives me any troubles at all. I am using a rather old laptop: Acer Aspire 4710 that comes with Windows Vista Home Basic.

Acer is a popular brand offering high quality products that you should check out.

Introducing Acer Aspire Timeline AS4810T-8480 14-Inch Aluminum laptop.
